Like many things in life, such as driving or swimming, everyone can learn faster and better if someone can explain and show you the essential skills. Casting with a fly rod is the same. It doesn`t matter if you are a complete beginner or an advanced fly caster; a lesson in fly casting from a professionally qualified instructor will always be helpful. It can cure your mistakes, give you an in-depth understanding of the physics and the process of casting, and, most importantly, the positive result from a good lesson will make you more confident and feel better when casting in a real situation. Fly casting is one of the most important components of Fly fishing. It defines the process and separates it from other fishing methods where different casting principles apply. It is not as complicated as it might look.
Fly Casting Courses

I am qualified as both an EFFA and AAPGAI fly casting instructor for casting with single-handed rods. I organize casting courses for individuals and groups of people. The course duration depends on you and how much you want to spend casting with me. I organize courses for beginners and advanced fly casters. I can also help someone who wants to pass a basic instructor exam at EFFA or a provisional or basic at AAPGAI. My coaching is always up to date. I am following the different trends and trying to improve my coaching methods as best as possible.
The beginner course is for those who feel new to the sport or handle a fly rod for the first time. This Course will teach you one thing for sure –to cast. It will also give you the confidence and knowledge to continue your fly-casting education. The Course will teach you:
- How to set up our tackle. Which one should we choose depending on where we plan to fish (rod, reel, backing, fly line, knots, leaders, etc.)?
- Different grips and body position
- Roll casting techniques (including techniques that will help you roll cast in windy conditions.)
- Overhead casting techniques (including techniques that will help you cast in windy conditions.)
- Health and safety when casting and fishing
We will also talk about how flies are used in different situations, how to read the waters, where we can find the fish, what they are feeding on, how to choose the right fly and everything else that you are interested in knowing about fly fishing and casting with a single-handed rod.
I can supply you with all the tackle we need for the Course, but you are welcome to bring your rods, reels, and lines so that I can try them and share my opinion with you.
Advanced Course suits everyone who has been casting before but wants to develop their skills and learn more. This Course can help you correct your mistakes quickly and efficiently. It is hard to look at yourself when casting, and sometimes the answer is simple, and the errors are obvious to the expert`s eye. I will try to explain them to you in an understandable way so that you can self-correct in the future. The Course includes:
- Distance roll cast. Roll cast with a haul.
- Overhead cast with a single and double haul.
- Casting off both shoulders.
- Single and double spey off both shoulders.
- The underhand technique is explained.
- Snap T cast.
- C (circle) cast.
- Practical techniques for changing directions.
- Casting different loop shapes and their applications.
- How to practice left-hand casting if you are right-handed and the opposite.
- Casting heavy flies -pike streamers, heavy nymphs, etc.
Also, everything else you are interested to know about fly casting with a single-handed rod.
During the Course, I will do my best to improve your casting to help you as much as possible and, of Course, to have fun. Anyone who thinks that they did not learn anything during the Course and it did not help them at all will receive their money back.

Demonstrations
I have been doing casting demonstrations mainly in front of clubs and at some fly fishing fairs. In 2022, I was honoured to present at the Biggest Fly Fishing Show in Europe – the EWF fair in Munich (Germany).
In my demonstrations, I usually focus on the efficient and effective casts we should use in everyday fishing- the so-called “casts that catch fish. ” Other topics I am interested in giving a talk and demo about are Distance casting and double haul, Trick casts and their use on the water, Casting large flies and sinking lines, Waterborn casts, Leader sets for different casts and fishing situations, and many other single-handed fly casting-related topics.
If you are a group of at least six people and want me to demonstrate for you, your club, or an event you are organizing, I will be happy to do so. The demonstration can be followed by a casting clinic, which helps the participants try what they have learned. I can provide additional personal advice and correct some mistakes. Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss the options, availability, and costs.
