Description
The Gradac River flows through the town of Valjevo before joining the Kolubara River. Protected by the state, it is one of Serbia’s most renowned fly-fishing destinations and a true hidden gem. With a total length of about 28 km, the river maintains crystal-clear waters ideal for angling.
Gradac is home to indigenous species such as brown trout and grayling, and its natural features—well-formed runs, pools, and riffles—make it perfectly suited for fly fishing. Anglers can enjoy a wide range of techniques, including dry fly, wet fly, French nymph, and streamer fishing, all in pristine conditions. The river operates on a catch-and-release basis, ensuring sustainable fishing for generations to come.
Season and regulations
The fly-fishing season on the Gradac River runs from March 1st until the end of September, offering anglers the best conditions for dry fly, nymph, and streamer fishing. Only fly fishing is permitted, and all fishing must be catch-and-release to protect the river’s healthy trout and grayling populations.
Anglers are required to use single barbless hooks, ensuring minimal impact on the fish. These regulations help preserve the Gradac as one of Serbia’s most pristine fly-fishing rivers, allowing visitors to enjoy sustainable fishing in a natural, unspoiled environment.
