Location
Lake Plav is located in Montenegro, near Plav in the country’s northeastern part. It is situated at the foot of the Prokletije mountain range and is known for its stunning natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities, 2 hours ahead of GMT.

Lake Plav, located in northeastern Montenegro near Plav, is a picturesque alpine lake surrounded by the stunning Prokletije mountain range. The Luca River and several mountain streams feed the lake, offering a rich ecosystem that supports various fish species, particularly trout. The Lim rivers start on the outflow of the lake.

Fish Species
For us fly fishermen, Lake Plav offers many fish species to be targeted.
Trout (Salmo trutta), Grayling (Thymallus thymallus), Pike (Esox lucius), Perch (Perca fluviatilis), Nase (Chondrostoma nasus), Chub (Squalius cephalus) and others are some of them. Huchen (Hucho hucho) also swims in its waters, entering from the Lim River. The famous lake trout (Salmo trutta) the locals call Blatnica is one of the most persuaded and prized catches in the lake.
Type of fishing & equipment
Lake Plav is ideal for practising all fly fishing methods for trout and grayling. It is excellent for streamer and nymph fishing. Huchen can be targeted with large streamers.
When you book a trip with us, we will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the fishing techniques and strategies you’ll use, along with a list of the necessary gear.
We can provide all the equipment necessary for up to 6 people. Waders, rods, reels, lines, flies ect. The cost is 20 euros for rod and reel, 20 euros for waders and boots and 30 euros if you need both. Prices are for one day only. A check, clean, dry regime is followed strictly.
Season and regulations
In Montenegro’s fly-fishing zones, only catch-and-release is allowed, using fly-fishing tackle with one fly attached to the line. In addition, landing nets and non-barbed hooks are required. Fishing permits can be obtained from local clubs that manage the river in their region.

This destination is best enjoyed by 2–4 anglers per guide. For larger groups, an additional guide can be arranged.
Safety
Montenegro, particularly this region, is known for its safety and welcoming atmosphere. The local people are friendly and hospitable towards foreigners, making it a pleasant place to visit.
Sunglasses, hats, sun lotion, mosquito repellent, waterproof clothes and wading staff are recommended. We always provide them, but you might prefer to take your own.
