I used to learn fly fishing on my own and practiced whenever I had the time. I wasn’t really sure what to expect from spending a few days on the river with a guide.

But let me tell you — it was the best money I’ve ever spent on fishing! Sure, it felt a bit like trying to learn Kung Fu in just a few hours, but I got so much out of the experience:

– I fought and landed the biggest trout of my life.

– I pushed all my fishing gear to its limits and now I know exactly what it’s capable of.

– I tried different styles of fly fishing and caught some great trout with each of them.

– I learned where my skills are lacking and what I need to improve.

And most importantly, I had an amazing time with people who share the same passion as I do. A truly great experience.

An unforgettable day of trout fishing on the Ogosta River in Bulgaria!

I just spent an incredible day fly fishing for trout on the beautiful Ogosfa River with guide Christo from Mankovflyfishing. From the moment we started, Christo had me dialed in. He read the water perfectly, adapted seamlessly as the conditions changed throughout the day, and never missed a beat. Thanks to his sharp instincts and local knowledge, I managed to land 4 beautiful trout — including 3 solid fish, with the biggest measuring an impressive 48 cm.

What made it even sweeter was that very few anglers were catching that day. Christo truly put me on the fish when others were struggling.

This wasn’t my first experience with Mankov — I’d previously enjoyed some excellent sessions with Stan as well — and I’m happy to say the high standards haven’t changed one bit. As the saying goes: “Don’t try to fix what isn’t broken!” The team clearly knows their stuff inside out, yet they never push their own style or agenda on you. They let you fish your own way, which I really appreciated. At the same time, they’re incredibly generous with subtle, highly effective tips that make a real difference, all delivered in a relaxed and non-intrusive manner.

The fishing was outstanding, the riverside food was delicious, and the company was genuinely warm and enjoyable from start to finish.

If you want to improve your fly fishing skills; to learn how to do things the right way and to spend a great time at the river, I highly recommend to call Stanislav! I have always struggle to make good casts with dry fly. I have watched lots of guiding videos, but it never worked for me. Only for few hours, Stanislav showed me my mistakes and helped me to understand and analyze them. He gave me some tricks up his sleeve how to correct the mistakes and immediately I saw a huge improvement. Furthermore he showed me some dry fly and Euro nymph tactics; how to read the water and witch are the most efficient ways to catch a fish. Thanks to that I actually managed to catch a beautiful trout, after only five minutes of trying, in a place where others (before us) failed. Apart from fishing… Stan is a great company and I really enjoyed that experience!

We wanted to thank Stan for the wonderful experience provided to Suzie and I during our trip to Bulgaria in September. His depth of passion, care, appreciation and understanding of the fly-fishing environment along with the cultural and culinary experience he provided was outstanding. Knowing it takes years and persistence of effort to achieve the level of knowledge and expertise Stan has with the ebbs and flows of the many rivers we fished, and trout fishing techniques, amazed me. Had some nice fishing days in Bulgaria with stan. He is very experienced, and what makes him „the best guide“ … he always focus that you have a great time“. I would go fishing with stan everywhere in the world. Great guy!

We fished with Stan in March in Bulgaria, and from the very first meeting it felt more like friendship than a guided trip. Stan knows his waters inside and out, turning every minute on the river into an outstanding experience. We were lucky catching lots of nice trout, but what made the trip truly special were the great conversations—whether while casting, driving, or sharing dinner together.

This was my first trip with Stan, and I sincerely hope it won’t be the last. Whether in Bulgaria or anywhere else in the Balkans, I’m already looking forward to many more encounters on the water with him.

We had the ABSOLUTE pleasure of spending a week with Stanislav, and it was nothing short of incredible. I came with three friends and together we enjoyed some truly unforgettable days of flyfishing. Each of us was lucky enough to catch beautiful, wild trout. But the Experience went far beyond just fishing.

Stanislav made the entire trip a highlight, he showed us not only the rivers and nature, but also the culture, hidden gems and fantastic food of the region. From start to finish, we felt completely taken care of and it was clear how much passion and dedication he puts into what he does!!!

If fished with Stanislav more times than I can remember and it’s always been an incredible trip. This guy is the fish whisperer. Even when no one else on the river is catching, he manages to find not just fish… but the big ones.

He’s also a patient teacher and just a great guy. I consider Stanislav not only one of the best guides I’ve ever had (and I’ve had many) but a good friend.

I hope we will open and close the season together for many years to come!
