Serbia is one of the most diverse fly fishing destinations, with traditions in the sport that have existed for many years. The Serbs are probably the only fly fishing community specialising in producing fly patterns for chub. Nevertheless, the country also has several great trout and grayling destinations. I have only included the most common ones to avoid spot-burning and spoiling other hidden gems in the Serbian mountains.
The mighty Drina is also home to the king of European salmonids—the wild Huchen. It is also a fly casting school for grayling anglers, as most fishing is done with dry flies. Distances over 25 meters are often the goal to present the fly in the zone of the rising fish.
The River Gradac is the perfect fly fishing destination for family or friends. It is also ideal for dry fly fishing fanatics and beginners willing to study the art of fly fishing for trout.
Lake Joca is a former natural reserve where fishing was not allowed for a long time. It offers some of the best pike fishing I have experienced in the Balkans.
The Serbians are a friendly nation with a great sense of humour. Their homemade dishes, which use food from local gardens and domestic animals, are one of a kind and not to be missed.
