Description
Kupa is one of the best known destinations in Croatia among fly fishermen. The river begins its journey from a small, beautiful lake-spring from where it flows downstream through rapids and small waterfalls. The upper part of Kupa flows through Nacionalni park Risnjak where the fly fishing area begins just 1 km downstream from the river spring. It stretches from the area of Srednji Kupari “Malni” until the confluence with Čabranka river. In this part the riverbed consists mainly of gravel and rocks which makes wading quite easy. Aquatic vegetation is relatively poor and is represented almost entirely of algae and moss. More than 20 small streams join Kupa in its upper part, which helps maintain relatively stable water flow and temperature throughout the whole year. Further downstream Kupa forms the border between Slovenia and Croatia. In this stretch the river gains lots of water from its tributaries and becomes larger, slower and deeper.

Brown trout (Salmo trutta) and European Grayling (Thymallus thymallus) are also presented
