Location

Joca lake is located in the northern part of Serbia, nearby the village Belo Blato; 1 hour ahead of GMT

Characteristics

The water surface of Lake Joca covers an area of 500 hectares, the water depth is 1-5 meters and about 50% of the lake is coverd with reed.

Description

Joca Lake is fed by the nutrient-rich waters of the Tisza River, creating ideal conditions for a diverse and abundant fish population. It is one of the many lakes in the Carska Bara area and stands out as the largest individual bog, the most significant nature reserve in Serbia, and one of the major wetland reserves in Europe.

The lake is relatively shallow and characterized by numerous submerged branches, fallen timber, and dense aquatic vegetation. These natural obstacles present a technical challenge for anglers, requiring careful casting and retrieval to avoid snags. Such conditions make Joca Lake particularly rewarding for those who enjoy precise, skillful fishing in a wild and unspoiled environment.

Fish Species

Lake Joca hosts a rich diversity of fish, including Pike (Esox lucius), Perch (Perca fluviatilis), Catfish (Silurus glanis), Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), Silver Carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), and many others, making it a prime destination for anglers seeking varied and exciting catches.

Type of fishing & equipment

Lake Joca is ideal for practising fly fishing for its diverse species, including pike, perch, catfish, and carp. The lake offers excellent opportunities for surface and streamer fishing, particularly for pike and predatory fish, while nymphing and wet fly techniques can be highly effective for carp and perch.

When you book a trip, we provide a complete overview of fly fishing strategies for each species, along with guidance on the most suitable rods, lines, flies, and other essential gear to ensure a productive and enjoyable experience on the lake.

Season and regulations

At Lake Joca, sport fishing is managed on a catch‑and‑release basis to protect the fish population and maintain excellent angling conditions. A daily fishing permit (around €20 / approx. 2,500 RSD per person) is required and is typically paid locally at the lake or directly to the fishing staff upon arrival.

Fishing from the shore is permitted, but to reach the more productive areas and maximize your chances of success — especially for pike and other larger species — a boat is strongly recommended and is usually provided as part of the fishing setup.
