Croatia is another fly fishing paradise situated on the Balkan peninsula. It has a lot to offer: mountain streams, one of Europe’s most significant chalk streams- the Gacka. Croatia has some fantastic saltwater destinations on the coast. I have described only the freshwater part of the country I visited. The mighty Gacka is home to giant brown trout with a professor-level education and extra selective feeding habits. And the river Kupa- the Kingdom of wild Huchen and grayling fishing mecca. I have spent many days fishing the Kupa and some of its tributaries, Curak and Kupica, and I can assure you this is probably the best place to enjoy grayling fishing with nymphs and dry flies! Especially if you have never caught one before. Pristine nature, wild rivers with wild and endemic fish, hospitable people, and phenomenal local cuisine!
