Description
The outflowing waters of Plav Lake feed the Lim River. The river features unique emerald-green and cold waters, with numerous high and steep sides of canyons and ravines. It forms part of the border between Montenegro and Serbia. Lim`s upper course is divided into 3 fly fishing zones; the most valued among fly fishermen is the one downstream from Plav. Here, the river provides excellent conditions with fast-flowing water and numerous pools, riffles and pocket water created by large boulders. It is a wonderful place for a year-round fly fishing experience.
Fish Species
The main target species that inhabit Lim River are Grayling (Thymallus thymallus), Brown trout (Salmo trutta), Huchen (Hucho Hucho), and Chub (Squalius cephalus). European grayling holds the best populations in all Montenegro river systems, and fish with trophy size from this species are not rare to be caught.
Type of fishing & equipment
The river Lim is ideal for practising all fly fishing methods for trout and grayling. It is excellent dry fly fishing water. Nymphing, of course, can also be highly effective for all the fish inhabiting the river. Huchen can be targeted with large streamers.
When you book a trip with us, we will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the fishing techniques and strategies you’ll use, along with a list of the necessary gear.
Season and regulations
In Montenegro`s fly fishing zones, only catch and release are allowed using fly fishing tackle with one fly attached to the line. In addition, landing nets and no barbed hooks are required. Fishing permits can be obtained from local clubs that manage the river in their region.
