Balkan Grand Slam – (Ribnik, Sana, Pliva – Bosnia)

Bosnia has become one of the most interesting destinations in the Balkans, Europe, and globally. Also called The fly fishing Mecca of the Balkans, this part of the country where we will be touring includes over 7 rivers full of wild populations of grayling, brown trout and Huchen. The place is an iconic example of how sustainable alternative tourism in the form of fly fishing can thrive.

It is a real fishing paradise where accommodation is literally on the river, and the fish are jumping under the terrace. The beautiful, clean, clear rivers and surrounding nature guarantee pleasant emotions. Local cuisine is also not to be missed. It is the perfect trip for both beginner fly fishermen and advanced fishermen alike. The Huchen season in Bosnia opens on the 1st of June, so we will have the unique opportunity to catch the Balkan Grand Slam that consists of Brown trout, grayling and Huchen.

Having in mind the pristine surroundings we will fish in, and the superb local cuisine, this trip can turn into a Memorable One!

Included:
Transport from Zagreb, Belgrade or Banja Luka airport to the rivers & back.
Accommodation- 6 nights in Ribnik LTG Lodge at a Luxury villa based on Single rooms.

Itinerary:

• Day 1 (01.09.2025)

Picking you up from The airport (Banja Luka or Zagreb), you will arrive at the village of Ribnik. Accommodation in the – Ribnik LTG fly fishing complex.

• Day 2 to Day 6

We fish the rivers Ribnik, Sana, Sanica, and Pliva for trout and grayling during the day and Hucho in the evening or early morning. We can also spend an entire day fishing for Hucho on Sana.

• Day 7 (07.09.2025)

Taking you back to the airport you have to take your flight from. (Zagreb or Banja Luka international airport.)

Rivers:

The Ribnik River springs from under the Srnetica mountain near the village of Gornji Ribnik. It starts from two strong springs whose volumes vary between 1.5 – 2.5 m3/s. Where the two springs join -the river has characteristics of a high mountain stream. Once the river made its way to Ribnik village, the character changed to a wide-flowing river with water clarity that can only be found in a ‘spring-fed’ or ‘chalk’ stream. The water quality makes the river extremely rich in aquatic insects such as shrimps, mayflies, sedges and many other invertebrates that are the primary food source for the grayling and brown trout. Along its course, this part of the river provides easy access to where it meets Sana.

The Pliva River is another spring-fed stream that will be fished during your stay. It offers 8 km of exceptional fly fishing for grayling and brown trout. The river’s rich diversity of fly and plant life makes for fit and healthy fish, with many grayling over 50 cm and brown trout over 10 lb being present. Pliva is the most beautiful River in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Sana is a river in the north-western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a tributary of the Una, into which it flows near Novi Grad. It is the most extended of the nine rivers that flow through Sanski Most. It has an incredible population of graylings. To catch more than 50 fish per day on Sana is nothing unusual. There is also a population of wild brown trout. It is the perfect river for sight fishing, small dries, nymphs and tiny tippets. It is a superb river where you can put your lightest tackle to the test. Sana is also home to many wild Huchen and is where we will try to get the most challenging fish of the three to make the Balkan Grand Slam!

The lodge we always use is the luxurious Tourist Complex Ribnik Center, owned by the LTG Company. It is, undoubtedly, one of the finest fly fishing lodges in Europe, offering bungalows, single & double rooms, and luxury villas. All are situated on the river bank. There is also an excellent restaurant where we can eat local food while sharing our best stories.

We book a luxury Villa for the trip in order to create full comfort for visitors.
